Roberto Mancini has rejected any suggestion that Manchester City’s guilty verdict reflects on him, disputing the outcome itself and distancing himself from the allegations involving his own contract.

The Italy coach addressed the case at his pre-match press conference before Monday’s Nations League trip to Turkiye, with quotes via CalcioMercato .

“I don’t think Manchester City were found guilty, quite the opposite,” Mancini said. “It’s not a problem that concerns me, and it isn’t anything new. Manchester City are not guilty, and on the double contract it isn’t my problem, theirs if anything.”

The case matters to him because his name appears in it. City were found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought over financial breaches between 2009 and 2018, as reported by The Athletic, a period that covers Mancini’s four years as manager at the Etihad.

Among the allegations, as reconstructed by Gazzetta dello Sport, are payments made to Mancini outside the books and a second contract that would have more than doubled his compensation. That arrangement is alleged to have been a side agreement with an Abu Dhabi club also owned by Sheikh Mansour, worth €2.03m for a minimum of four days’ consultancy work per year.

The claim is that the structure was designed to circumvent UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations and Premier League rules. Both City and Mancini have denied all of it, and the club are expected to appeal, with sanctions yet to be determined.
