Daniel Osvaldo’s family say the ex-Roma, Juventus and Italy striker is ‘doing well and is alert’ after emergency surgery on Friday.

Osvaldo’s family have provided a reassuring health update after the ex-striker underwent emergency surgery on Friday.

“He’s doing well, and he’s alert,” members of Osvaldo’s family told Argentine newspaper Clarín via Corriere della Sera.

Osvaldo underwent emergency surgery for a pleural effusion at a public hospital in Llavallol, Buenos Aires, and was subsequently placed in intensive care.

Osvaldo remains in intensive care, and although his condition remains “delicate”, he’s not considered to be in a life-threatening condition, reports Corriere. Doctors haven’t yet identified the cause of the lung infection that caused him to fall ill, according to the report.

Born in Argentina, Osvaldo holds an Italian passport and represented the Azzurri, scoring four goals in 14 appearances with La Nazionale.

The 40-year-old played for Atalanta, Lecce, Fiorentina, Bologna, Roma, Juventus and Inter in Italy.

He also scored three goals in 13 appearances while on loan at Southampton in 2013-14.
